ADUANA Stars coach, Yussif Abubakar, has praised his players for winning the 2016 GHALCA G6 tournament at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Dormaa Ahenkro-based club defeated Hearts of Oak 4-3 on penalties after sharing the spoils 1-1 in regulation time.
Patrick Razak handed Hearts the lead but substitute Nathaniel Asamoah, who came on for Bright Adjei, got the equaliser for Aduana in the second-half.
“I am really excited with this achievement, I have been with the club barely two months,” Abubakar said.
“The players were excellent and played very well, they fought hard. This is what you need from a team because they didn’t give up when we were down and I know this will go a long way to inspire us in the upcoming season,” he added.
Abubakar reiterated the club’s target of winning the Ghana Premier League next season after losing the title race to Wa All Stars in the last campaign.
“It is our target to win the league title this time around after finishing second last season. The players are aware and I hope they continue to impress so that the supporters will be happy. They have not seen the league trophy since 2010 and it would be incredible if we are able to achieve this dream,” he said.
The league was scheduled to kick off on December 18 but reports suggest that it will begin in February after the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. – Goal.com
