It was all joy and excitement for fans and sympathisers of Aduana Stars at the Nana Agyemang Badu II Park yesterday when local club, Aduana Stars beat Berekum Chelsea 2-1 in a coronation match.
The occasion was used to officially crown the Dormaa side as Ghana Premier League champions for the 2016/17 football season.
In front of an encouraging crowd that included Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyemang Badu II, Bright Agyei and Derrick Sassraku scored for the Premier League champions with Stephen Baffoe scoring the consolation.
Agyei opened the scoring as early as the 13th minute after a brilliant control when he was set up by a colleague.
Chelsea raised their game in search of an equaliser but Sassraku stunned the visitors with the second before Baffoe reduced the tally from the spot in the 54th minute.
The colourful event attracted people from all walks of life, including politicians, traditional rulers and football administrators among others.
The game was a mere formality as Aduana Star won the league with 57 points before a game to spare, with WAFA coming second.
Yesterday’s coronation was the second in the history of the Aduana club after winning it in 2009 for the first time.
The league victory gives Aduana the sole ticket to represent Ghana in their next CAF Champions League.
Aduana was presented with a cheque for $30,000 as their prize money.
