The Adentan Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Benjamin Angenu, has commended, Mrs. Rita Oppong for winning this year’s National Best Teacher Award.
He said Mrs. Oppong, who is a Visual Arts Teacher, has not only made her school, the Sowah Din Memorial 2 Junior High School, proud, but the municipality and the region as a whole.
Mr. Angenu made the commendation when Mrs. Oppong led by the Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Margaret Nsiah-Asamoah, staff and students of her school to present the award to the MCE, last Friday in Accra.
According to the MCE, it took Mrs. Nsiah-Asamoah years of hard work and determination to achieve the laurels and to raise the image of the profession.
“This is just the beginning, more needs to be done to inspire the younger generation of teachers to learn from this success story, to advance the course of education in municipality”, he said.
Mr. Angenu urged Mrs. Oppong to remain focused and continue to do her best so as to become a role model for the youth, especially the young girls in the country.
The MCE urged the municipal education directorate to intensify its supervisory role in order to produce more good teachers.
Mrs. Nsiah-Asamoah gave the assurance that staff of the directorate would work harder to improve upon academic performance of students in the municipality.
She urged all stakeholders to get on board towards implementing the needed reforms to facilitate teaching and learning.
Mrs. Oppong said her success story was due to dint of hard work, and said that the award would ginger her to work harder.
Teaching, she explained should not only be classroom based, but should be extended to the community, in order to know the pupils better, towards adopting practical measures to enable them enjoy their lessons.
Mrs. Oppong urged school children to take their lessons seriously so as to become responsible adults.
