The Agricultural Development Bank (adb) yesterday donated GHȻ 100,000 to the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) ahead of this year’s awards slated for October 27 at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.

The kind gesture was to ensure that the upcoming awards was properly organised as well as strengthen the strong bond that existed between the financial institution and journalists in the country.

Presenting the cheque, the Managing Director of adb, Mr. John Kofi Mensah commended the association for consistently providing the necessary platform for hardworking and excellent journalists to receive recognition for their originality and creativity.

“It is therefore most appropriate for the GJA to yearly recognise its hardworking members to serve as a positive example for both practising journalists and the new entrants,” he said.

Mr. Mensah said the contribution of the media to the socio-economic development of the country could not be overemphasised saying, “Our democracy has become an example for the rest of Africa to emulate through the media.”

He acknowledged the remarkable work of the media through which various companies and institutions were able to disseminate information about their products and services using prints, radio, TV and other social media platforms.

He urged the media to tailor activities that would educate the general public on the financial sector and agricultural related issues.

The president of the association, Dr. Roland Affail Monney who received the donation on behalf of the organisation expressed gratitude to the financial organisation.

The GJA Awards is the forecast awards scheme for journalists who use great content and life touching reportage to promote good governance.
