Adams Mutawakilu: Govt unfair to Ghanaians over PDS deal

Adams Mutawakilu, the Minority Spokesperson on the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament, has accused the government for being unfair to the citizenry by not adhering to earlier concerns raised about the Power Distribution Services (PDS) Limited agreement.

He explained that “the government should have been more diligent prior to signing of concession agreement with PDS, the documents presented by PDS prior to signing of deal is not genuine,” and further accused the government of not sticking to aspects of the deal which was approved by parliament.

This comes after the government announced a suspension of the concession agreement with PDS, after the detection of fundamental and material breaches of obligation in the provision of payment securities.

Mr Mutawakilu, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Damongo, hinted of plans to further investigate the operations of PDS saying, “The minority raised issues about same guarantee or security, PDS is expected to have provided right document before handing over of assets of ECG, on several occasions we called on the government that PDS has not provided right documents not backed on liquidity and cash.

“The government had to wait for all this while before coming out to say they had done their due diligence, has not been fair to the citizenry by not sticking to what parliament had approved and amending it to suit PDS, decision to scrap agreement can have dire consequences for country on International front in future.

“Some government officials should be accused of sidestepping agreed rule of engagements for concession deal, we believe suspension of PDS goes beyond provision of guarantor, we have information of alleged people fronting for agreements as challenges in coming days will come out with the truth,” Mr Mutawakilu fumed.

However, in a statement PDS has denied wrongdoing in concession agreement with the government through the Ministry of Finance following the government’s announcement of an immediate suspension of deal owing to discovery of some improper actions by company,  wishes to state for the record it has always acted and will continue to act in good faith at all times. –citinewsroom.com
