Accra Schools’ Cadets hold parade

The Greater Accra Regional Cadet Corps has held a march past at the 48 Engineers Regiment Square as part of its activities to mark this year’s Republic Day.

A contingent of 1,025 students in cadets from 20 first and second-cycle institutions in the region, participated in the colourful ceremony

The various cadet groups exhibited thrilling formation and marching skills, amidst brass band music to the admiration of patrons at the parade.

Some of the schools awarded for their excellent performance during the march past were Leading Light International Army Cadet Corps, St Mary’s International Naval Cadet Corps and Odorgonno Model Basic Immigration Cadet Corps for junior high schools.

In the Senior High Schools category, O’Reilly Senior High Airforce Cadet Corps, Tema Technical Institute Naval Cadet Corps and Kaneshie Technical Senior High Army Cadet Corps were also recognised for their performance.

Lt. Col. E.K. Appiah of the 48 Engineers Regiment, who reviewed the parade, commended the members of the contingent for the excellent performance and high level of discipline.

He believed the principles of the cadet corps would help to develop the youth into disciplined, productive and patriotic adults to support national development.

The Regional Cadet Coordinator, Commandant K.Z.O. Mensah, said the Republic Day parade was instituted to create a platform to celebrate the youth and inspire them to be patriotic.
