Accra Poly, German Agency sign MoU

SONY DSCThe Accra Polytechnic and the German Energy Agency (Deutsche Energic-Agentur GmbH-dana) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the German company to install a 90,000 Euro solar system at  the institution.

The joint venture by the MoU involve the installation of solar lamps, solar water pumps, solar back-up systems and ground mounted systems, with a total output of 10 kilowatts.

The project dubbed: “Educational trail,” is part of the worldwide renewable energy programme, financed and coordinated by the German Energy Agency, under the German Federation Ministry of Economics and Technology.

It is to be implemented by mp/Tec, a subsidiary of Solar Project West Africa.

Professor Sylvester Achio, Rector of the (Accra)  Polytechnic, signed on behalf of the school while Mr. Michael PreiBel, Founder and Chief Executive of mp/tec, signed on behalf of the company.

The Rector commended mp/tec for choosing the school for the project, a move he described as God- sent.

According to him, the project would also afford the polytechnic to benefit immensely from the transfer of skills and knowledge pertinent to communities.

Prof. Achio said the programme would also enable the school undertake research in solar technology.

He said the Polytechnic had introduced a proficiency course in German and other languages adding that “the partnership would open up new opportunities for the school”.


Mr. PreiBel said the country had so much sun that could be exploited to provide energy for the school, adding, “The school by accepting to partner mp/tec, would not only benefit from solar systems but also from the introduction of solar installation teachings and research.”  By Lawrence Akpalu
