The items included bags of rice, maize, a box of fresh tomatoes, gallons of cooking oil, cartons of tomato paste, fresh fruits and vegetables.
The donation followed an appeal made by the Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Mr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, for members of the association to go to the aid of the hospital.
The AMA boss made a promise to help the hospital address the nutritional needs of its patients two weeks ago when he donated similar food items and a cheque for GH5,000 towards the upkeep of inmates.
Ms. Mercy Nii Djang Aforiwaa, President of the Association who presented the items said the gesture from members to the hospital was out of compassion.
She said the nutritional needs of inmates should be the concern of every Ghanaian and promised the association would make more of similar donations.
“We cannot stay behind while our brothers and sisters suffer,” she said and urged philanthropists to go to the aid of the hospital.
Responding, Mrs. Beatrice Nyarko, Principal Nursing Officer at the hospital said the donation was timely, adding that it would address the nutritional needs of the inmates .
Mrs. Nyarko thanked the association and Mr. Vanderpuije for fulfilling his promise and appealed to the general public to regularly check on their relatives who were receiving treatment at the hospital.
