The Abudu royal gate of the Dagbon Kingdom have handed over the keys to the Old Gbewaa Palace to the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) as agreed earlier on.

They have, consequently, vacated the place after they successfully completed the final funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa Mahamudu Abdulai peacefully between December 14 and 28.

The Andani gate will take its turn to perform the final funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani between January 4 and 18.

The whole process of the performance of the funeral of the late chief was lovely and admirably as sub chiefs from both gates of the Dagbon chieftaincy divide participated in the funeral rites in their numbers.

One could not differentiate between Abudus or Andanis during the climax of the performance of the funeral of the late Mahamudu Abdulai.

The chiefs used their horses to display their riding skills to the admiration of thousands of people who thronged the Gbewaa Palace to witness the performance of funeral rites.

It was all cultural and traditional exhibition of Dagbon as the various chiefs took their turn to perform their cultural rites.

One after the other, the sub chiefs of the traditional area, who had specific roles to perform, were called upon to perform those rites in the full glare of the public.

The entire vicinity was thrown into frenzy when Bolin-Lana started the circumambulation of the palace as the people struggled to get close to him.

Hundreds security personnel deployed there had a difficult time in controlling the teaming crowd who kept pushing to get to the centre of the event.

Many people, including women, climbed on top of trees and vehicles throughout the three-hour period to see all cultural practices being exhibited by the chiefs.

The regent, Bolin-Lana Abdulai Mahammudu and the elders of Abudus commended the chiefs and sympathisers for support during the performance of the funeral of the late chief.

They also commended the eminent chiefs, the government and REGSEC for their support during the performance.
