Abronye DC assaulted by unknown assailants

The outspoken Brong-Ahafo Regional Youth Organiser of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe, alias Abronye DC, was on Saturday evening attacked and beaten severely by unknown assailants in Atebubu Amantin District of Brong-Ahafo.

Abronye DC, according to information gathered by the Ghanaian Times sustained a fractured arm as a result of the metal used on him and was rushed to a private hospital at Ejura in the Ashanti Region.

At the time of filing this report our sources indicated that due to the seriousness of his condition, Mr. Baffoe had been transferred to the Saint John of God’s Hospital, an orthopaedic facility at Duayaw Nkwanta, where he is said to be responding to treatment.

He was reportedly flogged severally with implements including pieces of metal during which he sustained deep cuts on both arms during a meeting with constituency party executives at the private residence of the Atebubu Amantin District Chief Executive, Edward Owusu.

According to our source, Abronye DC was at Atebubu to speak with some party executives in preparation toward the ruling NPP’s district, constituency and regional executive elections this year.

It was during the latter part of the meeting that the unknown men emerged from nowhere and attacked him which nearly resulted in his death.

The Atebubu Amantin District Police Commander Supt. Edward Konye confirmed the story to the media but said that the victim did not report the matter to the police himself.

He, however, said no arrest had been made yet but promised the police would investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.

The DCE of the area, Edward Owusu also confirmed the attack to the Ghanaian Times on phone when contacted but indicated that he was out of the district when the incident happened.

He, however, condemned the attack on Abronye DC and indicated that he would collaborate with the police to bring the perpetrators to book.

Though Abronye DC accused the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh of being behind the attack on him, which has not been confirmed, several efforts made to contact the minister for his comments did not yield results.
