Ablekuma West NPP Chairman Charges On MP

Mrs. Owusu EkufulThe chairman of the Ablekuma West constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused his Member of Parliament (MP) Ursula Owusu-Ekuful of being hypocritical in her call for Greater Accra Regional Executive members of the party to be voted out of office in elections due next month.

Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful on Tuesday expressed disgust at the attitude of the party’s regional executive members, blaming them for the NPP’s poor performance in the 2012 general election.

According to her the regional officers failed to support parliamentary candidates, some of whom- including herself- had to rely on the expertise of former executives to be able to win their seats.

She claimed party leaders in the region failed to capitalized on the appalling governance of the ruling National Democratic Congress during the electioneering campaign.

However, the Ablekuma West constituency chairman, Theophilus Tettey, riposted that the MP should not ‘pretend to be holier than the Pope’, by attempting to blame the regional executives for the woes of the party in the Greater Accra Region because some of her actions and inactions lead to the defeat of the party in the region.

He revealed that in the heat of the campaign leading to the general elections, the party’s resources in the region were over stretched and a request was made to Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful for a pick-up truck in order to facilitate the activities of the party in the constituency, but she blatantly refused to release any in spite of the fact she was in procession of five vehicles, then.

“She did not give us the cars for party activities despite the fact that she had five of them. How can she turn around and accuse everyone in the party of performance in the region during the last elections but herself”.
