The Student Representative Council (SRC) of the Accra Polytechnic has handed over a 150kva generator plant to the authorities to augment power supply.
The GH¢133,000 plant was donated by the 2014/15 SRC to supply power to students resident at the polytechnic hostels.
Speaking at a ceremony yesterday, the SRC’s president, Sualihu Mohammed Hardi said the gesture was in fulfillment of the SRC pledge to support the polytechnic with a generator.
The SRC, he said, observed that the erratic power supply in the country, was affecting the polytechnic, especially students living at the polytechnic hostels and therefore decided to assist with a generator.
Mr Hardi said whenever the polytechnic generator which supplied power to the lecture halls went off, it affected activities of the students living at the hostels.
“Whenever, the light goes off, students at the polytechnic hostels suffered most, because they do not have any means of power. So the SRC confronted the authorities and pledged to support the hostels with a generator,” he said.
The Polytechnic Rector, Professor Sylvester Achio, thanked the SRC for fulfilling their promise noting that the authorities appreciated their support and would ensure proper maintenance of the plant.
