800 NPP Polling Agents Schooled

AfokoA total of 800 polling agents of the New Patriotic Party in the Klottey Korle constituency in the Greater Accra Region have undergone a four-day training in electoral processes, ahead of the opening of the limited voter registration exercise.

The training, which was on the theme “Strengthening the grass root structures for victory 2016” prepared the polling agents for the 2016 general election.

The constituency chairman, Nii Noi Nortey said there was the need for polling agents to be enlightened on the ideology of the party, electoral processes and data base management.

He said the polling agents were informed and educated about the electoral and collation  processes of elections.
He said being a polling agent was not about ticking the names of electorates but ensuring that the right thing is done at the polling station and collation centers.

Mr. Nortey stated the training workshop was instituted to impact knowledge to the participants who were the backbone to winning the 2016 general elections.

“The process of the 2016 victory starts from the Klottey Korle constituency which is the seat of government” he said.
Mr. Roland Herman, a facilitator said that it was essential for the polling agents to undergo the training to champion the party’s cause at winning elections in the constituency.

He advised the polling agents to be cautious during the up-coming voters’ registration exercise to ensure a clean voter register.
“Vigilance is the process to clean up the register of minors and foreigners who are not eligible voters” he said.
Mr Herman advised foreigners not to attempt to register and also urged parents to encourage their children who have turned 18 years to register.

The training, the first to be held by any constituency by the NPP and was funded by the constituency chairman.
