800-bed facility for Tamale Teaching 800-bed facility for Tamale Teaching Hospital inaugurated

The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, has inaugurated an 800-bed facility for the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) in the Northern Region.

The facility, which is the second phase project of the hospital, was meant to improve quality healthcare for the people of the area.

Mr Agyemang-Manu said the redevelopment of the hospital was commenced in 2010 under the previous government.

He said the new project is aimed at offering tertiary health service, including accident, obstetrics, gynecology, medical and pathology cases, to people in the area, and other hospitals around.

The minister said the 40 million pounds project would offer opportunity for the authorities of University for Development Studies (UDS) to train more health professionals.

Mr Agyemang-Manu said that inauguration of the facility was part of government’s effort to provide quality health to people at all locations.

He maintained that government under the presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was very committed to improving healthcare delivery nationwide, in conformity with the Sustainable Development Goals.

He urged the staff of TTH to eschew laziness, and absenteeism and commit themselves to their duties, and also impressed upon the management of the hospital to cultivate the habit of culture maintenance, in order to keep the facility neat at all times.

Mr Agyemang-Manu added that the ministry would place innovative but humane strategies toward making the hospital self-sustaining.

The Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saeed commended the government and its partners for the facility, adding that as the ‘landlord’ of the region, he would monitor every single activity in the hospital to make sure that the management run the hospital effectively.

Mr Saeed appealed to the Ministry of Health to ensure that more doctors and other health professionals were posted to the region.

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, Dr David Z Akolbila, said the facility would go a long way to help TTH achieve its vision of becoming a centre of excellence in the provision of quality tertiary healthcare, education and research.
