8 teams to compete for McDan Peace Cup

McDan Shipping Company Limited in a bid to promote peace ahead of the general election in December will sponsor an eight team football tournament from October 31 to December 5.

The tournament dubbed “McDan Peace Tournament” will bring together teams from La, Osu, Teshie and Nungua to vie for the trophy at stake and a cash amount of US$1,OOO.

The five teams from La include Aviation Stars XI, Court Stars XI, Gormli Stars XI, and Kaklamadu.

Mr. Adjetey Adjei (Dormon), Chairman of La United who is the head of the organising committee noted that opinion leaders from the participating communities would be tasked to sign and send peace messages across the communities they represent while committing to maintaining the peace before, during and after the election.

“We want to use the tournament to let the youth know of their responsibility to be agents of peace and say no to electoral violence. They are the productive force for the future and must not yield to any inducement to commit acts that could cause them to lose their lives or fall foul of the law during the elections.”

The tournament will kick start on Monday October 31 at the La Salem Park and will be played every Monday on knockout basis with the winners moving to the semi-finals to be played on November 28.

The finals will take place on December 5 at the La Salem Park.
