8 suspected criminals arrested in Baatsona

Five armed robbers and three drug dealers were yesterday arrested by the Police at Baatsona, a suburb near Accra

The alleged robbers are Kofi Anim Mohammed,25, also known as Soldier, Mohammed Kasina,22,Oteng Obour Samuel,25, also known as Blackies,Kwabena Arko,20 and Mohammed Awal, 19.

The suspected drug peddlers are Charles Coffie, 31, Hamidu Latif, 21 and Regina Odai,18.

Items retrieved,include slabs of compressed leaves suspected to be Indian hemp among others.

The Baastona Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Felix Kwasi Cosmos told the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday stating that the suspects were in the custody of the police assisting in investigations.

The Commander said on October 6, the Command raided a room at Block factory at Lashibi Ramar site where Mohammed and Kasina who had been on the police wanted list were arrested.

He said the police retrieved one cutlass, some Talisma,four charm rings, two charm padlocks, six serviceable mobile phones and nine unserviceable phones.

ACP Cosmos said later on the same day Arko and Awal were also arrested on the Spintex road.

He said on October 9, police trailed and arrested Samuel and items such as wrist watch retrived from him was later identified by a robbery victim during identification.

The Commander said based on on a tip-off, a suspected drug peddler was arrested at Lashibi Celebrity Hills.

“A search on him revealed one compressed slab of dried leaves, twelve wrappers, and quantities of dried leaves,”he added.

He said on October 9, the police arrested Latif at Lashibi, and a search on him revealed 360 sachets of dried leaves and quantity of similar dried leaves were retrieved.

ACP Cosmos said on October 12,in a follow-up  the Police discovered  a quantity of suspected cannabis at Teshie in Accra.

He said three jute sacks and a bag containing 297 compressed slabs of dried leaves and 84 parcels of similar leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were retrieved from a room being occupied by suspect Odai and her mother (at large).

ACP Cosmos said the suspects would be soon be put before court for prosecution.

The Commander assured the residents of the commitment in the fight against crime in the area and its environs.

He called on the public to volunteer information to the public to help in the clamp-down on crimes in the country.
