8 armed robbers grabbed for stealing air conditioners

proofreadThe police have arrested eight armed robbers for allegedly stealing 61 air conditioners and electronic appliances last Sunday dawn at a warehouse at Kpone in the Kpone Municipal Assembly of the Greater Accra Region.

They are Johnson Nti, also known as (aka) Kofi Nti, an employee of the company, and leader of the gang, Stephen Mensah, aka America, Emmanuel Mensah, Abdulah Mohammed, Andrews Koffie, Joe Amoah, Clement Gyasi and Kwame Danso.

The Tema Regional Police Command Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Benefo Darkwah confirmed the arrest to journalists.

He said personnel of the Prampram Divisional Police Command received complaint that 10 armed men scaled the wall of a warehouse of a company and held a security man and two drivers hostage, by locking them in one of the company’s offices.

DSP Darkwah said some of the suspects forced open a 40-footer container which contained the air conditioners, two flat screen television sets, a water dispenser and one kettle, and loaded the item into a truck and bolted.

The police PRO said Kofi Nti was spotted in a moving vehicle by the complainants and he was arrested.

DSP Darkwah said Kofi Nti led the police to an uncompleted building at Kpone-Kokompe, where the booty had been kept.

He said Kofi Nti further led the police to arrest seven others, and some weapons were retrieved, while two accomplices fled.

DSP Darkwah said the suspects, who had been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and robbery. 

He advised employers to have a comprehensive background check on their staff and constantly monitor them since some of them may be criminals, who could assist criminals to steal at companies.
