5 robbers arrested for killing Chinese

Five persons have been arrested by the police at Asuboi Anum, a suburb of Suhum in the Eastern Region, for allegedly killing a Chinese, in a robbery attack.

The suspects, Yegbe Saviour, 22, Richard Offei, 26, Kwaku Djin, 19, Dennis Atta Kwabena Snr, 34, and his twin brother, Daniel Atta Kwabena Junior, 34, attacked six Chinese, resulting in the death of one (Chinese).

The suspects, who posed as landguards, allegedly attacked the Chinese contractors, who were working on a One District One Factory (1D1F) project in the area.

They were also said to have hit the head of one of the Chinese contractors with a cement block killing him instantly after he resisted the attack.

The Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ebenezer Tetteh confirmed the incident to the Ghanaian Times, adding that the robbery attack occurred on Sunday, April 14 this year.

He explained that the suspects, who made away with money and other items belonging to their victims, were arrested at separate hideouts on Sunday and Monday at about 3pm.

DSP Tetteh said a search conducted by the police in the rooms of suspects, Dennis Atta Kwabena Senior and Daniel Atta Kwabena Junior, revealed seven assorted mobile phones, two laptops, and quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

DSP Tetteh stated that the suspects have been detained to assist police in investigation.
