Five persons have been arrested by the police for allegedly robbing residents of East Legon and its environs.
Anthony Galley, 23, trader; Amewugah Kumafu, 18, labourer; Richard Tenyuie, 20, driver’s mate, Korley, 22, electrician and Akwasi Aikins, 18, trader, are currently in custody with Hamza Aziz, 26, who is alleged to have received the stolen items.
Briefing the media, the Deputy Accra Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner, (ACP) Timothy Yoosa Bonga, said last Wednesday, the suspects stormed a café with machetes, a single-barrel gun, held the patrons hostage, stabbed the café operator in the left shoulder and made away with six mobile phones, four laptops and GH¢1,200 cash.
Suspects fled the scene and again attacked and robbed some students of the Islamic University of their mobile phones and monies.
The following day. at about 1:30 dawn, a securityman spotted one of the suspects scaling the fence wall of a house, and raised the alarm which led to his arrest. He was identified as one of those who robbed people at the café, the previous day.
ACP Bonga said suspect led the police to arrest his accomplices and a search of them revealed four mobile phones and chips.
During an identification parade, they were identified by their victims as those who attacked and robbed them.
ACP Bonga said efforts are being made to arrest the two accomplices, Moses and Senya, currently on the run.
