5 arrested for Bimbilla Chief’s murder

The suspects (from left) Gunta,mohammed,Ibrahim and Rabiu arrested for the murder of Bimbilla Chief.Photo;Anita Nyarko (5)Five people have been arrested  by the police in connection with the murder of Naa Abudulai Dasana Andani II, Chief of Bimbilla and five others, during an attack on the chief’s palace in the Northern Region in June.

The suspects, Bawa Adam Gunta, 54, Shahadu Abubakur, 40, Yakubu Ibrahim, 40, Mohammed Isaah, 39, and Adam Rabiu are currently in police custody

Three of them Abubakar, Ibrahim and Issah, have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder contrary to section (25)46 of the Criminal Offences Act of 1960 Act (29) upon advice from the Attorney-General’s (A-G’s) Department.

Gunta has also been charged for allegedly murdering Alhassan Tanko, contrary to section 46 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), while Rabiu is facing a charge of discharging firearms in town without lawful possession and necessary occasion, contrary to section 209 of Act (29)60

The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP) Prosper Kwame Agblor, told newsmen in Accra yesterday that following the clash on June 19, this year, 25, people were arrested in connection with the murder of the chief and five others.

He said after the investigations, a docket was prepared to the AG’s department for advice and subsequent prosecution.

COP Agblor said upon the advice, the suspects were charged accordingly.

It is recalled that the Bimbilla Chief, Naa Andani was murdered in his palace on June 19, when he was observing his evening prayers.

Five others also were said to have been killed, while four people sustained gunshot wounds during the attack at the palace.
