President John Dramani Mahama has promised to construct an ultra-modern market for the people of Mankessim in the Central Region if Ghanaians retain the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration in office.
The market, which he christened the “Mahama Mankessim Market,” he said, would be outstanding in West Africa.
He made the promise at a mammoth rally at Mankessim on the third day of his five-day campaign tour of the region.
“We have completed that of Professor Mills and we are going to build Mahama Market here in Mankessim. I stand before all the people of Mankessim and promise you that within my next term of office by the grace of God; before I leave office in 2021, the Mankessim market will be rebuilt.” he said.
The Mankessim market is largest trading centre, with traders and patrons coming from the region and beyond to engage in brisk business, especially on every Wednesday and Saturday.
President Mahama also announced that he had directed the construction of a 10-kilometre asphalted road in the township.
The announcement of the new Mankessim market comes a day after President Mahama had promised to upgrade the Cape Coast Amado Market in the Cape Coast South Constituency when he addressed residents there on Tuesday night.
