Four suspected criminals including a woman have been arrested for allegedly using a taxi to rob their victims of their possessions, in Kumasi.
According to the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ampofo Duku, the suspects, Richard Owusu Ansah, also Known as Kobby, 38, Taxi driver, Sandra Adu Gyamfi, 28, Akwasi Agyei, 25, Adoayire Asana, 22, belong to a syndicate who pose as taxi driver and passengers to rob their innocent victims.
They were arrested in their hideouts in separate operations at Ohwim, Barekese and Dichemso.
At a press briefing here, on Monday, ACP Duku said Owusu, who was the leader of the gang and the taxi driver among them, picks up their victims using Sandra Adu Gyamfi, the only female among them as bait.
He said, Owusu after picking up their victims, would go ahead to pick up the other gang members on their way without the victims suspecting anything foul, and then rob them along the way.
“Owusu, the driver will pick a prospective victim, by then the woman will already be in the car, and so when you see the woman already in the car, I do not think you will become suspicious, so he will pick you in addition to the woman”, ACP Duku indicated.
He added, “along the way, he will stop and pick Akwasi Agyei and Adoayire Asana, and when the four of them are in the car, they will rob you and push you out of the car and speed off”.
According to ACP Duku, the gang operated within the Kumasi Metropolis and the outskirts of the Ashanti Region where a lot of people have fallen victims to them.
He said “it is good these suspected criminals have been arrested and will be soon arraigned for prosecution”.
