4 granted bail for possessing ‘wee’

The Juaben Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region has granted a GH¢5,000.00 bail with a surety each, to four persons suspected to be in possession and smoking Indian hemp at Tafo, near Kumasi.

 

Tongo Boazo, 53, a watchman, Opoku Gyimah, 26, mason, Kwabena Eric, 24, unemployed, and Fred Nana Acheampong, 17, a student, pleaded not guilty and would appear again before the court on December 21, this year.

 

Police Chief Inspector Dela Amenuvor, prosecuting, told the court presided by Mr Yusif Osei Asibey, that the suspects were arrested by the Tafo-Pankrono Police on September 21, this year, during routine patrol duties.

 

He said the police spotted them smoking the dried leaves and arrested them,

and when a search was carried out, 40 wrapped substances were found on Opoku.

 

Chief Insp Amenuvor said though the suspects denied that the substances were Indian hemp, a police forensic investigations proved otherwise, and they were therefore arraigned. – GNA
