THIRTY-SEVEN people have been arrested by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command in swoops at various spots of the capital believed to be hideouts of robbers following the recent surge in armed attacks in the capital.

The intelligence-led swoops were to clamp down on criminal activities.

Addressing the media in Accra yesterday, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said the police would stop at nothing in ensuring the safety and security of residents of Accra.

He said the police were also considering areas like Community 18 in Tema, Oyarifa and Oyibi for similar swoops.

He urged the public and residents of those areas to volunteer information to enable the police to achieve their goal in that direction.

He announced that an award scheme had been instituted for those who provide the police with valuable information that would head to arrest of the criminals.

Meanwhile, the police have suspected that some displaced criminals from the recently demolished Sodom and Gomorrah slum could be engaging in ruthless attacks resulting in the rise in criminal activities in the region.

DCOP Yohuno said members of the gangs causing trouble in the region would be made to face the full rigours of the law when caught.
