33 graduate from UDS Medical School

Professor Haruna YakubuThe University for Development Studies (UDS) School of Medicine and Health Science (SMHS) graduated 33 new medical doctors.

It increases the number of trained doctors from the school to 186.

Prof. Haruna Yakubu, Vice-Chancellor of the UDS, speaking at the graduation ceremony in Tamale, said the university was poised to produce more qualified doctors to enhance health care delivery, particularly in the rural area.

In this regard, he said the UDS had signed memorandum of understanding with Galilee International Management Institute in Israel to promote its medical training in programmes.

Dr. Abdulai Baba Salifu, Chairman of UDS Council, for his part, encouraged the new doctors to accept posting to the rural areas.

According to him, their services were critically needed in those areas, adding that their contribution in improving rural health care would fulfill the objective of the development of the medical programme in the university.

He urged the government to reciprocate the sacrifices of doctors in the rural areas, adding that those working in difficult conditions need to be motivated with special incentives.
