3,000 LPG Cylinders Distributed To Gonja C’ Nities

pic4The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has presented 3,000 pieces of 6kg LPG cylinders with cooking stoves and accessories to the low income earners at Buipe and its surrounding communities in the Central Gonja District of the Northern Region.

The sector’s Deputy Minister, Mr. John Jinapor, who made the presentation at Buipe yesterday, said it was part of government’s effort to promote LP gas use in the country particularly in the rural communities.

He said the government’s programme to discourage the use of wood as a source of fuel in order to minimize the degradation of the forests was on course.

He said the ministry was vigorously promoting domestic use of the LPG in rural communities across the country.

Mr. Jinapor assured the public of the ministry’s commitment to ensure the sustainability of the programme to promote LPG use in the rural communities.

“The ministry of Energy and Petroleum is assured of the sustainability of this programme because of the effective collaboration with its sector agencies,” he said.

He revealed that the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company, Energy Commission, National Petroleum Authority and Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company were collaborating effectively with the ministry to achieve the dream.

Mr. Jinapor said the promotion of the LPG was not only going to reduce environmental degradation but boost businesses.

The Deputy Minister also advised the beneficiaries to handle the items with care and also urged them never to revert to the use of firewood and charcoal as source of energy.

Mr. Yacin Shiraz, District Chief Executive for Central Gonja, commended the government for the gesture, stressing that it would go a long to improve the lives of the people in the communities.

One of the beneficiaries, Mary Alhassan, thanked the government for the assistance and pledged to make good use of the facility.
