300 Central Tongu communities enjoy power

Madam AgbenyenuThree hundred communities in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region have been connected to the national electricity grid in the past three years, under the Rural Electrification Scheme.

“We are making serious efforts to extend power to the remaining 19 communities,” said the DCE, Madam Mary Agbenyenu.

Speaking at a town hall meeting held by the assembly at Adidome last week, she said 50 electricity poles had already been procured for the extension of power to the remaining communities.

Meanwhile, 300 streetlights have been installed in all the 27 electoral areas of the district.

On market infrastructure Madam Agbenyenu said work had been completed on the Adidome market, likewise the construction of storm drains at the Mafi-Kumase market.

She disclosed that work was 93 per cent complete on, a perimeter fence around the Mafi Kumase market, while a pick-up vehicle had been purchase by the assembly for revenue mobilisation.

Touching on health, the DCE said there were currently 11 functional CHPS compounds in the district.
