About 30 people on board a Metro Mass Transit bus travelling from Dambai to Ho, in the Volta Region, sustained various degrees of injury when the vehicle veered off the road, and plunged into a ditch at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) junction at about 6.30 pm on Monday, at Sokode-Lokoe, near Ho.
According to a police spokesman, the bus with registration number GE 9274 Z, was avoiding a private car, GR 6439 J, which was overtaking another vehicle from the Ho direction when the incident occurred.
“The car also skidded off the road and went into the ditch, probably because the driver panicked,” the spokesman said, adding that the driver’s seat of the car was soiled with blood, indicating that the driver was also injured.
He said the bus driver was among the injured who were taken to the Ho Municipal Hospital and the Ho Regional Hospital.
The police, however, declined to give the identities of either the driver or the injured, saying, “We have just started investigations into the matter”, the spokesman added.
The Ghanaian Times was at the scene on Tuesday and noticed that the bus was also heavily loaded with yams.
