IMG_3598Three people were burnt to death on Saturday when an articulated vehicle in which they were travelling from Tema to Burkina Faso veered off the road at Heborn Junction on the Nsawam-Kumasi road into a ditch and burst into flames.

The dead were Mohammed Woo, 35, the driver, his mate, and another passenger yet to be identified.

An eye-witness said the accident, involving a DAF articulated vehicle with registration number GR 3675-Z in which the deceased were trapped, occurred at about 11.30 a.m.

He said he was at a drinking spot with some friends when they heard a loud bang which made them rush to the scene, only to find the truck in flames and the victims trapped in it.

Immediately, he said, they informed the police at the Doboro barrier.

When The Ghanaian Times got to the scene yesterday morning, there was heavy vehicular traffic, as one side on the road was blocked to help in rescue operations. There was also a huge crowd.

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service   from Nsawam and Amasa-man, were there to help retrieve the bodies from the truck and provide security.

The Nsawam District Police Commander, Superintendent Akwasi Kankam-Boadu, told The Ghanaian Times that his outfit had information and rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames that had engulfed the truck for the bodies to be removed.

He said the bodies have been sent to the Nsawam Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

He said initial investigations has revealed that the truck was from Tema enroute to Burkina Faso with 45 tons of coiled metals. From Anita Nyarko, Nsawam
