A joint military-cum-police patrol team on Tuesday, arrested three highway men who robbed their victims at gun point, at Alhassankura, near Babatorkuma, in the Kintampo Municipality of Brong Ahafo Region.
The suspects, Alhassan Yakubu, a fisherman from Yapei, Kwame Walahu, a mechanic, and Musah Kifila, were reported to have attacked some Burkina Faso nationals travelling to Tema in the early hours of Tuesday.
The victims, Amara Praori and Watara Seidu, were said to be repairing their broken down DAF truck with registration number 11 JL 4642 BF at the time of the incident.
The suspects robbed the victims of their mobile phones and an unspecified amount.
Briefing The Ghanaian Times, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, Police Public Relations Officer of the Regional Command, said the suspects attempted to attack another oncoming car, but were unsuccessful as the driver refused to stop when they flagged him.
According to him, the driver sped off and reported the robbery attack to the joint military and police patrol team, who were patrolling the highway.
ASP Tawiah said when the team arrested the robbers, they found two sharp knives, one spanner and screw driver hidden on the motorbike they were using for the robbery.
He said they had been transferred to the Regional Headquarters for interrogation.
