Madam Janet Bonyene, Headmistress of “3” Garrisons Nursery Basic School at the Liberation Barracks in Sunyani, has called for a new school block for the nursery.
She explained that despite the enviable academic performance of the pupils, same cannot be said about the learning environment in which they find themselves.
“We need a permanent structure to befit the status of our children,” she pointed out.
Madam Bonyene made the call at the fifth graduation ceremony for the nursery pupils who are being promoted to Kindergarten, at the Liberation Barracks in Sunyani on Friday.
She explained that the school lacked better recreational facilities, teaching and learning materials to enhance smooth academic work in the school.
She has therefore appealed to the corporate community to assist the school in that direction.
She disclosed that the school was under the management of the Ministry of Defence but has been taken over by the Ghana Education Service due to the new educational policies.
Madam Bonyene expressed gratitude to the school’s PTA and the Garrison Education Unit for their support in the running of the school.
Captain Saviour Hadjah, 3 Garrison Education Officer, addressing the ceremony, stressed the need for parents to take early childhood education serious noting that “early childhood education is very important in laying the solid foundation upon which the future education of children are built upon.”
He said parents should not shirk their responsibilities in paying their children’s fees, checking on their homework, as well as picking them early after school.
The school pupils treated parents and invited guests to exciting performances including choreography and drama.
