Three Fulani Highway robbers and an accomplice have been arrested by the Northern Regional Police Command after robbing passengers in three vehicles at Dagomba Line, a farming community in the Central Gonja District.
Burotali Bello, Mahaadu Kaliko and Issahaku Mahama were among six thugs who blocked the main Tamale-Buipe highway on Sunday, and attacked passengers in the vehicles that were moving from the Tema Habour to Burkina Faso.
According to the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, the robbers collected a total amount of GH¢ 6,000 and personal belongings from the victims.
Luck, however, eluded them when they flagged to halt a military vehicle, but on realising that those in the vehicle were security personnel, they (robbers) jumped on their motorbikes and attempted fleeing.
The soldiers arrested two of them, but the others managed to escape even though they sustained gunshot wounds in a gun battle with the security personnel.
One of the wounded suspects in his bid to receive treatment at a medical facility at Buipe, was arrested together with the accomplice and handed over to the police.
The police are currently on a hunt for the rest.
Two of the suspects have been identified as ex-convicts who were recently released from prison, after serving various terms for similar offences.
Meanwhile, the suspects have been remanded into prison custody until September 23, by a Tamale Circuit Court, presided by William Appiah Twumasi.
