3 escape from Prampram police cell

Three prisoners on Monday escaped from the Prampram Police cell in the Greater Accra Region.

The incident happened at 11:20pm when the detainees were said to have escaped through the ceiling of the cell.

The Public Relations Officer for the Tema Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Joseph Benefo Darkwah, who confirmed the incident, gave their names of the escapees as Samuel Pardie and Victor Fiagbenu, both remand prisoners, and Michael Nartey, a prisoner.

He said another inmate alerted the police on duty after the inmates had escaped.

DSP Darkwah said the police rushed to the cell and realised that the ceiling of the cells had been broken and inmates managed to escape.

He disclosed that an alarm was raised and a search led to the re-arrest of Michael Nartey, a convict, by the Prampram Police at his hideout in Ashaiman.

The PRO said efforts were being intensified to apprehend the other suspects who are on the run.

He said the Tema Regional Command was appealing to the general public and various media houses to help re-arrest the two suspects.
