3 drown in Daboya River

Abdallah Abubakari,Northern Regional Minister. (6),,,Three persons drowned when the canoe in which they were travelling capsised in the Daboya River in the North Gonja District of the Northern Region.

The deceased were said to be returning to Tamale from Daboya, after attending the campaign launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Daboya/Makarogu constituency, Mr. Saibu Mahama.

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh who disclosed this to The Ghanaian Times yesterday gave their names as Mavis Kofi, Samaia Yusuf, 19, and Fadaitu Abass, 21.

He said there were seven people on the canoe at the time of the incident, but four were rescued and taken to the Daboya clinic for treatment.

According to him, security personnel were conducting investigations to establish the cause of the accident.

An eye-witness told The Ghanaian Times that none of the passengers wore a live jacket when the accident occurred, adding that there was poor visibility at the time.
