3 arrested over use of fake dollars

Three people have been apprehended by the police for allegedly using fake United States dollars to purchase items at a boutique at Sowutuom in Accra.

Jerry Ankomah Jnr, 36, Stephen Forson 25, alias Joe Broni, and Leslie Adotey Allotey, 30, are in the custody of the police assisting in investigations.

The Odorkor Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Francis Aboagye-Nyarko, told The Ghanaian Times that early this month, the suspects went to a boutique to purchase items, which amounted to GH¢1,400.

He said they offered 400 dollars to the complainant (name withheld) and explained that they did not have cedis on them.

ACP Aboagye-Nyarko said the complainant took the dollars and gave them GH¢200 as change for the items purchased.

The Police Commander said the the complainant went to a Forex Bureau to change the dollars but it was detected that the money was fake.

ACP Aboagye-Nyarko said complainant reported the case to the police and the suspect’s were arrested, adding that a search in their room revealed a box of rubber sealants, quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and 400 fake dollars.
