3 arrested over student’s shooting

Abdulai Aziz, 23, and student of the Bawku Senior High School (SHS), has sustained multiple wounds in the ribs, leg and arm following a shooting by unknown assailants.

The incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. at Gigande, a suburb of Bawku, in the Upper East Region.

The police found 32 spent shells and 40 live ammunitions of an AK-47 assault rifle, at the scene.

Chief Superintendent Lovelace Tefutor, the Bawku Divisional Police Commander, who confirmed the incident to The Ghanaian Times on phone, said the victim is presently on admission at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital.

The bullets have been removed and Aziz is in a stable condition and responding to treatment.

The Police Commander said three suspects have been arrested, and assisting the police with investigations.

A locally-manufactured pistol was found on one of the suspects, he disclosed.

Meanwhile, Bawku is calm, with the people going about their normal duties.
