3 Arrested For Robbing Cocoa Depot Of GH¢0.127m

The three suspects with the money.inset.The safe containing the money.Photo Anita NyarkoThree people have been arrested by the police for allegedly breaking into the safe of a cocoa depot at Nankese, near Suhum in the Eastern Region, and stealing GH¢127,940.

The suspects, Baba Adamu, 24, driver; Isaac Otoo, 24, and Charles Donkor, 28, were arrested at Teacher Mantey, near Nsawam in the Eastern Region during a snap check.

The money was for disbursement to purchasing clerks for the purchase of cocoa, on behalf of the company.

The suspects were said to be transporting the stolen safe with the cash to Tema when they were arrested.

The National Highway Patrol Commander, Superintendent Alexander Amenyah, told The Ghanaian Times in Accra that at about 2:30 p.m. yesterday, the Highway Patrol team on the Accra-Anyinam stretch intercepted an Opel Vectra taxi-cab with registration number GR 4296 W being driven by Adamu.

He said during a check on the vehicle, a safe containing GH¢120,000 and a bag containing GH¢7,940 were found in the boot.

Supt Amenyah said when questioned about the money, Otoo said they broke into a cocoa depot office at Nankese and stole the money.

He said the three were currently in the custody of the police assisting in investigations.
