The Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command last Tuesday arrested three members of a gang for robbing a businessman, at gun-point, of his gold and an unspecified amount at Nyinahini, a mining town in the Ashanti Region.
According to the police, the robbers, numbering five, and armed with locally manufactured pistols and cutlasses, were arrested at Acherensua, in the Asutifi South District of the Brong-Ahafo Region.
Briefing The Ghanaian Times here, DCOP Maxwell Atingane, the Regional Police Commander said the police, acting on intelligence, arrested three of the robbers with others on the run.
He mentioned Baba Seidu, aged 20, Kwaku Dankwah, alias Catcher, aged 17 and George Akologo, alias Cross, aged 18, as the robbers in their custody.
The Regional Commander said the businessman (name withheld), who dealt in gold was driving a Nissan pick-up when he was accosted by the robbers at Nyinahini and took a quantity of gold and an unspecified amount of money from him at gun-point.
He said the suspects abandoned a taxicab they were using along the road.
DCOP Atingane said GH¢29,943 was retrieved from the suspects when searched after their arrest.
He said the suspects, during interrogation, confessed to committing the crime and mentioned those on the run as their accomplices.
He said the suspects had been arraigned before court.
