Twenty nine students, who were arrested in connection with the Tumu Senior Technical High School rampage, leading to the closing-down of the school, have been granted police inquiry bail.
In all, Upper West Regional Police Command grabbed 44 students to assist in investigations into the rioting.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Upper West Regional Police Command, Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng, who confirmed the development, told the Ghanaian Times eight students were remanded into police custody, because their parents failed to sign their bail forms.
He said the students were, however, given police escort to the school to write the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), and brought back to the police station.
Meanwhile the school remains closed, and the final year students have been allowed to complete their examinations, amidst heavy security.
The Tumu SHTS was closed down last Friday, by the Municipal Security Council when final year students attacked school authorities and vandalised school properties running into thousands of cedis on the grounds that their mobile phones were seized by the authorities in their bid to check examination malpractice.
Nineteen students were initially arrested by the police, but the number increased to 44 after preliminary investigations.
