24 injured in accident at Kyekyewere

TWENTY four people sustained various degrees of injuries when the bus on which they were travelling collided with an articulated truck at Kyekyewere, near Nsawam, in the Eastern Regions at dawn on Wednesday.

The articulated truck with registration number GC 7705-11 with a 20 footer container of biscuits from Nsawam to Suhum, was said to be trying to overtake a broken down vehicle and as a result, collided with the bus with registration number GE 6001-14.

The accident which occurred at 2:30am caused a huge traffic jam in the area.

Three of the injured are on admission at the Nsawam Government Hospital in critical condition, while the 21 have been treated and discharged.

The Nsawam District Police Commander, Superintendent Magnus R. Sam, who confirmed the incident to The Ghanaian Times, said his outfit had obtained information on the accidents and, therefore, dispatched a team to the scene.

Superintendent Sam said at about 2:30am Stephen Fokuo, the driver in charge of the O and J Travel and Tour bus, with passengers on board on reaching Kyekyewere collided with the truck whose driver was Sule Seidu, 29.

The police commander said the cargo truck, with registration number GE 5113-V, was involved in an accident an hour before the articulated truck ran into it.

He said both drivers were in critical condition at the hospital.
