A final-year student of the Prempeh College in Kumasi, died and another was injuried after they fell from the last floor of their dormitory at the school on Friday.
What started as a friendly confrontation saw the two final year students, Samuel Asare and Tabiri Kofi Boateng, slipping and crashing onto the tiled floor of the three-storey Opoku Ware II House dormitory block of the school.
Doctors at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital said Bediako, a final-year Business student, had severe brain injuries and died at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital.
The other student, Tabiri, a final year Science student, who is currently responding to treatment at the hospital, had fractures on his right arm and injuries to the head.
Some students interviewed said one of the students was sitting on the banister when the other went to hug him. In the process, the one who was sitting on the banister slipped and while he was falling grabbed the colleague.
“They both fell onto the tiles below and one bled profusely,” one student eye-witness said.
The students are gripped with fear, and some said they would not sit on the balustrades again.
The authorities of the school are yet to comment on the incident.
