Briefing The Ghanaian Times, in Accra yesterday, the Kwabenya District Police Commander, Superintendent Victoria Yamoah said on August 4, at about 9pm the police had information that two military men in a taxi with registration number, GC6971-12 had arrested, handcuffed and beaten Daniel Ako-nai at Dome Pillar Two.

Eye witnesses became suspicious and trailed the taxi cab, and caught up with it at the Westland Police Post at Haatso.

Superintendent Yamoah said the angry mob attacked and nearly lynched them but for the timely intervention of the police.

The suspects told the police that they had no intention of robbing Ako-nai and only wanted to hand him over to the police.

“According to Supt Yamoah, the suspects said Ako-nai peeped into the taxi and asked, “Boss, what’s up? Are you from the Bureau of National investigations? I am not afraid of you.”

The police arrested them, but Iddrisu escaped with the taxi together with the GH¢200 and other belongings of Ako-nai.

Earlier in the day, the suspects had trailed one of their victims from the bank and robbed him of 2,200 Euros at Kuntakinte, near Kwabenya.

During interrogation, one of them said they were on their way to Dome to visit a friend while the other said they were going to Haatso to visit a sister.

Investigations revealed that the suspects started the act about three months ago, adding that the station had received several reports that some military men had been attacking and robbing them.
