2 rival groups in shoot-out at Tamale hotel

There was sporadic gunshots in the vicinity of the Picona Hotel in the Tamale central business area last Saturday night when two rival groups alleged to be involved in internet fraud and money doubling, clashed.

The incident occurred when one of the alleged money doublers who has been enskined a sub-chief by one of the prominent chiefs in the area was entertaining his friends and supporters at the hotel.

According to eye-witnesses, the “Sakawa boys” stormed the place and started firing indiscriminately to which the money doublers responded forcing residents to flee.

It took a combined team of the police and military to bring the situation under control.

The Northern Regional Police PRO, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, confirmed the incident and said the police were investigating it, adding that there were no injuries and no arrests made.

He reminded the residents of the Tamale metropolis and the entire region that possessing any kind of firearm was illegal and that the security would deal ruthlessly with any individual arrested in possession of a weapon.

Some residents of the area expressed their worries over the recent development in the metropolis and the surrounding communities and urged the security agencies to arrest all those involved in such criminal activities.
