POOR Accra Great Olympics. After showcasing textbook football they allowed themselves to become one of the major causalities in the MTN FA Cup round 32 tie last Sunday at Tema Sports Stadium after, bowing to Division two side, Afienya United FC on penalties.
Oly were held to a draw 2-2 within regulation time and went out during the penalty shootouts, losing 5-4.
But Olympics have themselves to blame as they allowed the hungry Afienya City lads to withstand their barrage of attacks till the referee blew the whistle for the end of the match.
Afienya took the lead in the 9th minute when M. Anwar Inusah scored.
Oly equalized through Agbashie Dotse in the 15th minute and raced in the lead in the 27th minute through Lawrence Appiah.
Afienya however got the needed equalizer through Akafia in the 44th minute.
Another Premier side, Liberty Professionals were eliminated from the MTN FA Cup competition after losing 1-2 to Samartex at the Carl Reindoff Stadium in Dansoman.
At Kasoa, Inter Allies drew 1-1 with Proud United but won 3-1 on penalties, while BA United needed a 54th minute goal from Abdul Wahab to eliminate Kenyasi FC 1-0 at the Hwidiem Park.
At Sekondi, Eleven Wise advanced with a 1-0 win over Unity FC at the Essipong Stadium courtesy Vincent Bekoe, whileAmidaus Professionals were shocked 1-0 at the Tema Sports Stadium by Real Tamale United.
Premier League side WAFA eliminated Prestige FC 4-2 on penalties after both sides drew 1-1 after normal time at the Nicholson Park.
And at Wa, Istanbul FC continued their fairy tale in the Ghana MTN FA Cup after thumping third-tier 77 Stars 5-1 last Sunday.
The Akyem Techiman-based side made the long trip to Wa to deliver a fabulous performance to advance to the last 16 of the competition.
Daniel Agyei and Thomas Avorgbedor grabbed a brace each while Daniel Adade scored the other with Domapeille Reuben scoring the consolation for the home side.
