2 perish in fatal crash at Yareyeya

Barbara Tetteh, 24, a level 100 student of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) died on the spot in a fatal crash, on Friday evening, at Yareyeya  on the Tarkwa-Bogoso highway in the Western Region.

Miss Tetteh, the Ghanaian Times gathered, died on the spot when an articulated truck from Ayanfuri crashed into a Mercedes bus on which she was travelling while Gabriel Dubizay, 20, suffered serious injuries, and, died later, at the Tarkwa Government Hospital.

Their bodies have been deposited at the same hospital awaiting postmortem.

Two others, according to the police, are on admission receiving treatments.

Briefing the Ghanaian Times yesterday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, said at about 6.30pm on Friday, Isaac Donkor, 38, was driving the MAN Diesel articulated truck with registration number WR 1623-10 from Ayanfuri towards Takoradi.

She said, on reaching a section of the road at Yareyeya, near the Police barrier, Donkor lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the Mercedes Benz bus, killing the UCC student.

“The vehicle swerved into the opposite lane and crashed into the oncoming Mercedes Benz bus with registration number GE 9086-15, driven by John Nathaniel Darkoh 32, trapping Miss Tetteh, to death,” ASP Adiku explained.

According to the Police PRO, Matthew Kuka, 22, Amos Adomah, 14 and Gabriel Dubizay, were rushed to the Tarkwa Government Hospital, where, Dubizay, died.

She said that the police and rescue team from the Fire Service rushed to the scene to retrieve the bodies, adding that both vehicles were damaged.

Donkor, the driver, according to ASP Adiku, was yet to report to the police and was being sought to assist the police in their investigations.
