Two suspected land – gards have been arrested for allegedly murdering a rival gang member at Kuntunse, near Amasaman.
Nii Amon Kotey, 35, and Nii Ashalley Brafo, 35, were reported to have beaten and inflicted cutlass wounds on Samuel Ablordey, 37, leading to his death.
The Amasaman District Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sebastian Adigiya, who confirmed the incident to The Ghanaian Times, said at about 11 am on May 11, two groups of landguards, including the suspects, fought over illegal land money, popularly called “kusum” which they took from a female developer.
He said Ablordey, who arrived at the scene with a locally, manufactured pistol, was said to have fired indiscriminately and later took to his heels but he was chased with a motorbike by the two suspects, who eventually caught up with him around the exit gate of Bivac Office at Satellite.
ASP Adigiya said they overpowered him and inflicted cutlass wounds on him, attacked him with cutlasses until he fell helpless. They then hired a tricycle to transport him to the Ofankor-Achimota Highway, but the Mile ‘7’ Police who were hinted, intercepted them.
The Crime Officer said Ablordey died while being transported to the hospital for treatment.
He said a locally-manufactured pistol, a BB shell, a talisman and a mobile phone were retrieved from the suspects.
The two have since been remanded by the Amasaman District Magistrate’s Court until May 28.
