Two persons were killed and seven others were injured when a cargo truck conveying them to a funeral somersaulted and trapped them underneath, at Krofrom, in Kumasi, on Saturday.
The Mercedes benz cargo truck, with registration number AS 1454-P, was conveying about 20 artisans from Ash Town to a funeral at Suame when the incident occurred.
One of the deceased had been identified only as Gyamfi.
Suame Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kingsley Kwame Kawodie, who confirmed the incident to The Ghanaian Times, cautioned drivers against overloading and overspeeding.
He said the driver lost control of the steering wheel when the vehicle approached a curve and some of the passengers fell off the vehicle which, somersaulted and fell on them.
“It was quite an unfortunate scene, and we had to call for a towing machine to lift the vehicle for those trapped beneath to be rescued,” ASP Kawodie stressed.
He said that the deceased had been deposited at the mortuary of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and the injured were receiving treatment at the health facility.
