Edenkemah Kenya, a 13-year-old form two student of Baku-Nralekyi Junior High School and a tanker driver’s mate named Amos died in an explosion here on Saturday.

Another person got injured when a fuel tanker belonging to Trust Logistics Limited exploded while welding works was being done on it Saturday.

The injured, yet to be identified, is on admission at the St. Martin de Porres Hospital Eikwe, while the bodies of the deceased were kept at the hospital’s morgue.

An eyewitness said the driver’s mate took the tanker which had remnants of condensate (retrograde gas) to a workshop at Baku for repairs.

Edenkemah who normally goes to work there on weekends opted to undertake the task with another attendant in the absence of the shop owner.

According to the eyewitness, the driver’s mate poured water on the weld to cool the temperature but unfortunately the pressure reached a crescendo exploding in the process with a big bang which attracted scores of people to the scene.

The eyewitness said the impact ripped off the back of the vehicle injuring Edenkemah fatally, adding that  good Samaritans rushed the three to the hospital but Edenkemah was pronounced dead on arrival while Amos died the next day.

The Essiama Police Headquarters is handling the case, while the truck is currently parked at their station.
