2 e-Transform Project C’ttees Inaugurated

Dr Omane Boamah,Minister of Communicatios (2)TWO Inter-Ministerial Oversight and Technical Committees were yesterday inaugurated by the Minister of Communications, Dr Omane Boamah, to oversee the implementation of the e-Transform Project to enhance software applications as a major driver of the economy.

The five-year project, being executed with a 97 million dollar loan facility from the World Bank seeks to consolidate the e-governance project that laid the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure in the country, and comes to a close next month.

The e-Transform Project focuses on software application that will create an enabling environment for effective service delivery and position the country to be more competitive in the global ICT infrastructure.

The Ghana Immigration Service is benefiting from 16 million dollars as part of the project to enhance its capacity in tracking the movement of people in and out of the country, and other related functions of the service.

Other beneficiary ministries are Education, Health, Justice and Attorney General.

Dr Boamah said over the years the country had successfully implemented the e-Governance Project which had significantly improved service delivery in government institution, and agencies, adding that export revenues had increased from 32.5 million dollars in 2010 to 72 million dollars by December 2013, as a result of the implementation of the project.

The minister said it was prudent to consolidate the gains chalked under the previous project by scaling up the software applications to enhance service delivery.

Mr Ato Sarpong, Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Oversight Committee that is made up of Deputy Ministers of Education. Health, Justice and Attorney General, urged the committee members to work extra hard to deliver the project within three years.

The Chief Dircetor of the Ministry of Communications, Issah Yahaya, chairs the Technical Committee which will provide the technical guidance for the implementation committee in the execution of the project.
