2 drivers arrested for transporting ‘wee’

Two drivers, who were allegedly transporting 98 slabs of compressed Indian hemp, from the Volta Region to Achimota in Accra, have been arrested by the Police.

Charles Anomah, 46, and Kweku Charles, 32, are currently in the custody of the police assisting in investigation.

They were reported to have concealed the consignment under clay soil in a truck.

The Accra Regional Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Inspector Kwabena Danso, confirmed the arrest to the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.

He said at about 12:45pm the command received information that a HINO Cargo truck with registration number AS 7729-16 was transporting Indian hemp concealed under white clay.

Inspector Danso said a patrol team dispatched to the area managed to track the truck.

He said Anomah upon seeing the Police took to his heels, but was chased and arrested.

Insp Danso said Charles, who was in charge of the vehicle was also arrested after which a search in the truck revealed 98 slabs of Indian hemp concealed in two bags under the clay.

He said investigations were ongoing and the narcotic would be sent to the forensic laboratory for testing.
